Emptiness by Ria Falkner

Our Love is Here to Stay by George Gershwin

Ria Falkner, a vibrant and multi-talented woman, is a professional singer, song writer and guitarist. She has been performing throughout the States and Canada for many years.

She is well known for her stylish compositions, a unique combo of bossa-jazz, blues and funk with hints of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchel, Diana Krall, Billie Eilish and Ray LaMontagne.

Whether giving a sexy and sensitive rendition of her original tunes or a jazz standard, or belting out a soulful and powerful version of a Blues or an R&B song, it can be said Ria is a highly qualified musician, a vocalist supreme and a warm and humorous entertainer.

“Bringing Music and laughter into people’s lives is my true calling. Born in Buffalo, New York I began my musical career by playing in my brother’s band “Tommy and the Tornado” with super players like Lee Tiffault and Tom Falkner. These were some of the best days of my life and helped develop my musical skills. We performed our original music and arrangements of great standards. everything from Dionne Warwick’s “What the World Needs Now” (still a part of Ria’s repertoire) to super funk tunes like,“Knock on Wood”.

Moving to Vancouver, I was fortunate to be a member of “Smilin’ Jack Smith and the Sparklers”and performed with the legendary Joe Mock. I later went out on my own to sing in Funk and Jazz bands like the Night Train Review and Cubism, a jazz band I co-created with the late, great artist (and my precious husband) Peter MacDonald. I have had such great opportunities in my career and have performed and recorded with giants; Bob Murphy, Dave Saye and Monik Nordine, and from Florida, greats such as Michael Booker and Lis-Anne Lyons. All of these wonderful experiences with fellow musicians have made my life rich with creative relationships and personal musical expression.”

Ria studied guitar and jazz vocals at Miami Dade College and at the University of Miami, as well as with many private instructors.

Recently, Ria moved to Kelowna B.C. where she is gigging in wineries, restaurants, and concerts as a soloist and with Kelowna’s own Loni Moger, jazz guitarist extraordinaire. Together they will take you to a new musical high.

Her successful C.D. “The Little Things” has sold throughout Canada and the US. She is currently working on her new C.D, “Future Paradise”.

Check out her events and come and see this unique and very cool lady.

Ria’s Music Studio, is located in East Kelowna, where she teaches guitar, voice, piano, ukulele and hand drumming.

“I just can’t wait to meet you”
